How to make Coconut Body Butter base.

My sister Ann planned a party where we would make things using our oils. I need to make my coconut basic body butter. I bought my unrefined coconut oil at Costco's. I ordered Shea butter, mason jars, spray and roll on bottles. I bought jars to go along with the larger bottles my sister gave me. The best prices for canning jars were at Target and Wal-mart. Once I had the supplies, she text me the instructions and then I got busy. The process was not hard, just time consuming but well worth it!

I was making 2 large batches, one for me and one for my sister Terry.

I bought the unrefined coconut oil at Costcos.
I ordered the unrefined raw shea butter online.

Heated on low flame long enough to liquidfy, do not boil!

I mixed the two together and then placed them in the refridgerator to cool
Once they started to harden, I whipped them up.

As you can see this made a lot of body butter!
The large jars hold 32 ounces. This was my batch!
Now I was ready to make some things with my oils!

This is a 4 ounce jar I bought at Wal-Mart.

(For a small amount, use this recipe)
1 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup shea butter
3 drops of vitamin E oil, this is a natural preservative.
Add essential oils as needed.

Here is another one using beeswax which holds together better.
This is my base for my deodrant
2 tbsp. shredded beeswax (or beeswax pellets)
1/4 c. organic extra virgin coconut oil
1/4 c. organic raw shea butter
2 tbsp. oil (olive, almond, jojoba, etc.; can be infused with herbs such as lavender or chamomile if you like)
Young Living essential oil (for added benefit and/or scent), optional*

Instructions

Fill a saucepan about half full with water; bring to a boil then reduce the heat to medium-low. Place a glass or stainless steel bowl over the saucepan. It should completely cover the opening of the pan to prevent any steam from getting into the lotion. Add all the ingredients except the optional essential oil to the bowl. Allow to melt, stirring occasionally, until a uniform liquid results. Add optional essential oil one drop at a time until desired scent is reached. Pour hot liquid carefully into sterilized jars (the short 8 ounce canning jars with a wide mouths work perfectly).
Once the liquid has set and cooled to room temperature, you may need to stir it to keep it creamy.

Notes
1. *When using quality essential oils like Young Living's, be sure to store the butter in a glass container.
Storing it in plastic will eventually corrode the plastic.
2. A little of this body butter goes a long way! It is very moisturizing
so using too much will make your hands feel greasy. It works great to keep skin soft
and works at combating rough spots such as those that might be found on your elbows or feet.
