Whether it is scrapping or knitting or any other thing I have gotten into, there is an initial investment in supplies. Along with the supplies, I also make an investment is in my health.
I was lucky to get some jars and an essential oil book from my sister for Christmas. I got my coconut oil at Costco's and Shea butter online. This was to make my base for my creams. You can read about it at my Body Butter page.
Because essential oils are so concentrated, they combined with a carrier oil to help spread the oil. They also dilute the strength to make them easier to the skin. An essential oil is a liquid that comes from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, of a plant.
Steam or water distillation is used to extract the oil.
Prices vary according to where the oil comes from, and how rare it is. I have chosen to use Young Living Essential oils that guarantee 100% therapeutic and pure. They follow that Site to Seal guarantee. You can read more about that under Young Living.
A carrier oil is a vegetable oil and usually comes from the seeds, kernels or the nuts of a plant.
The carrier oil helps to get the essential oil onto the skin. It is used to dilute hot oils, when using on a baby or child and when you have a large area to cover.
I went to sprouts and bought fractionated coconut oil(stays liquid), jojoba, avocado, grapeseed and vitamin E.
I added vitamin E to my coconut/shea base because it is a good preservative and good for the skin.
So the next thing needed is jars and, bottles. Essential Oils need to be stored in glass. I buy my products here
Most of my jars are purchased at Wal-mart.
