Love Story

I met my husband while I was in my Sr year of high school Well I never had plans to get married until I was out of college. In fact I was even thinking of joining the service at one time. I was also thinking about going to school back east. That was all in my Jr year. Then one day my cousin Joanie invited all these guys to our church youth group. I noticed one guy in particular because of his smile. Turns out his nickname is Smiley, but his family called him Jr. Joanie liked his brother. So one Sunday when our youth group was at the skating rink, they had a girl ask boy skate. So Joanie and I each asked them to skate. Later I was talking about albums. We were talking about War and Santana. So I told him I had that album and if he wanted to come over and borrow it. Well he did and after that he started calling me. Then our youth group was having a 50's party and all of us girls had gone to the Goodwill to look for outfits. Well when they picked us up, we mentioned that we needed one more thing and that was their class ring to wear around our necks. When the night was over, he said I could keep his ring. We went to the winter dance and then the Prom. I can't remember when, but I did get a promise ring in exchange for the HS ring. Things were mmoving fast! Meanwhile I was accepted to UCI and that was fine because I was close to home. Graduation came and Jr, gave me a heart made from my birthstone. I knew I loved him already. One day in October of 73, we were playing pool at his parents house and he asked me to marry him and I said yes. I went home and told my parents and I know they were not real happy. They were so afraid I would mess up my educational plans. But I told them that Jr. supported me in them. Jr. came over and spoke with my dad. We were not going to get married for a couple of years. But when my mom and I started talking about it and she brought out a calendar, the date was set for August 10, 1974. We formally annoucned our engagement on Thanksgiving of 73 and it was in the local paper. In August of 1999, we celebrated 25 years by renewing our vows.
