"Round the Candlelight: A Children's Advent Poem
For four long weeks, we meet at night
and gather 'round the candlelight.
We say a prayer, and hear it told
of prophets from the days of old.
They brought us hope for times to come,
said God would send to us a Son.
That He would reign forevermore
and death and sin would be no more.
And in that hope, we found a peace
to make the anger in us cease,
to set our minds on higher things:
the Prince of Peace, the King of Kings.
He came to save and to forgive,
He loved us so that we could live
and now we share that love with others,
care for ourselves and one another.
At His birth, we feel a joy
to fill the hearts of girls and boys.
But we must wait with our delight
to gather 'round the candlelight.
Oh Advent, Advent, help us wait
for the One who sets paths straight.
Give us the hope, and peace, and love,
of that great Joy from up above.
