What does your dream home look like? Country Cottage, Craftsman

Can you describe it inside and out? When I was first married, we lived in an apartment that was on the 2nd level. It was small but just right for us. I liked the patio that ran the length of the bedroom and living area. We had tons of plants, hanging and in pots. After being there a year and a half, we moved to my parents rental unit. It was a craftsman style home with a little porch on the front, and a bigger one on the side. It was a really cool house with built in book cases on either side of the fireplace. There was a large dining room with built in drawers and buffet style cabinets. French doors let out to the side pation. From there you enered a huge sunny kitchen. There was a small breakfast room with 3 windows, one that looked out to the side porch. Another door let to the large sunny laundry room There was a basement to store lots of things. It was a duplex with a small studtio apartment attached. It had a nice bathroom with a deep claw tub.

In 1978 we bought our first home that was built in 1933. It was fix me upper with lots of potential. There were hardwood floors under the carpet. There were 2 large linnen areas. A bay window in the large living room and french doors leading to the patio. There was a dining room that was opposite the living room. It opened up to the large bright kitchen that also had a breakfast room. There was no heating in the house. There was a large fireplace in the living room. in 1984 we remodeled the house adding another room, brought the laundry room inside the house, remodeled the kitchen and added forced air and heating. We went from 1600 - 2400 single story space and I loved that house. I still dream if it. Hubby and brother in law got the notion to move to the hills where they grew up. The homes were to expensive there and we moved out to "the country" We though the story home in a new community was great for our kids. Well a few years later everyone moved out there and the city grew along with the awful traffic. Move forward to today. We are retired now and want a smaller home that is single story. We will put our house up for sale in the winter and start looking for something that hopefully has a porch or a picket fence.

What style of decorating do you lean toward, or are you an eclectic decorator using whatever is on hand?' Our styles sure have changed over the years. I prefer a warm, comfy environment with the things I love. I have lots of pictures all around. Books, baskets, and country decor like my ragdolls sitting on an antique sewing table. Newer things to. so eclectic for sure!

Want about fireplaces or woodstoves? Have one? All our homes have had a fireplace. The house we are in now has a fireplace that we have not used in several years. We let my daughter have the family room for her and the kids so it looks lie a preschool roon. The fireplace is not used. We move to the front room and I miss having the fireplace. Next house needs a fireplace in the front room or even a great room. I would love one in the bedroom!

Describe your idea of the perfect day at home. My dream home is single story, or the Master downstairs. If I could combine the rental and our first home, I would be really happy. I would love a medium size yard with fruit trees and a swing set for the grand kids. I would like french doors to lead out to the backyard that has a lattice cover top where I could have a few hanging baskets. I would put my swing out there. Looks like we will have to move our far enough to find an older home with what we want without the high taxes and cost in our current city. A girl can always dream right?

Now that I am retired, every day is almost perfect!
