Thursday June 28, 2012, Road to Hana! Part 3

Haleakala National Park Pools of Oheo.
Our family went on 2 different days because we had 2 little ones that could not handle a 12 hour bus trip around the Island. The younger kids went on the 27 and had a nice sunny day. We went on the next day which was rainy from the previous evening and off and on throughout the day. Our tour guide Debra said we would have some great waterfalls.

Heading to The Pools if Oheo, looking down from the bridge.
You can only see the top of the falls.

Here is a picture from Jacquelyn's IPhone

This picture is shot from down lower toward the sea. See the bridge at the top?
This picture was actually taken later and the rain stopped, but I wanted you
to see the comparison of the 2 days of the same shots.

It was also raining so who needed to go swimming? At least it was warm.

Good thing we have a towel on the bus.

Terry, Susie and Judy

Time to head back up to the bus.

The sun was coming out now.

I stopped inside the gift shop and got a few things before getting back on the bus.

Charles Lindbergh's burial place.

Opelu Falls as seen from the highway past Kipahulu. Water is usually clear
but with all the rain, it was brown from the dirt and there were two falls!

This is taken with my zoom looking down over the bus.

I told Debra about Farmville Hawaii and Lilikoi, so when she saw the boy
she pulled over so we could get down and see if he had some.

Lilikoi-passion fruit! It was very tasty. Light, kiwi, perfumy taste.

Haleakala Crater with a wiliwili tree to the right.

Wiliwili tree or Hawaiian Coral is found only on the dry side of the Hawaiian islands.
It is endangered now because wasps that are invading the trees.
It flowers in the summer with orange flowers and was used to make surfboards.
